Hot Sales Roots Blower
Hot sales roots blower
A roots blower is a type of positive displacement blower that uses two or three figure-8 or helical-shaped rotors (impellers) to move a fixed volume of gas with each revolution. It’s named after the inventors Philander and Francis Marion Roots, who patented the basic design in 1860 for industrial applications. These blowers are known for their oil-free operation, continuous duty, constant flow, and suitability for both pressure and vacuum applications in industries like wastewater treatment, pneumatic conveying, and chemical processing.
Specification Range of Roots Blower
Flow rate: 0~1257m3/min
Pressure Rise: 9.8~196kpa
Speed: 970~2300rpm
Lobe Type: Three lobes

Key Components of roots blower:
-
- Two Lobes: Typically two identical, figure-8 shaped rotors (lobes) that are precisely machined and mounted on parallel shafts within a casing. Lobes can have two, three, or even four lobes each.
- Timing Gears: Synchronized gears mounted outside the casing ensure the lobes rotate in precise opposition without touching each other or the casing.
- Casing: A housing that closely encloses the lobes, creating small clearances.
- Inlet & Outlet Ports: Located at opposite ends of the casing.

Key Characteristics of roots blower:
- Low Pressure Ratio: Best suited for applications requiring pressure rises typically between 0.1 bar and 1.0 bar (1.5 to 15 psi). Efficiency drops significantly at higher ratios.
- Constant Flow vs. Variable Pressure: Delivers a nearly constant volumetric flow rate regardless of discharge pressure (within its operating range).
- Robust & Simple: Few moving parts (just lobes, shafts, bearings, gears) make them mechanically simple and durable.
- Oil-Free Operation: The lobes don’t require lubrication inside the pumping chamber, making the delivered gas oil-free. Gears and bearings are lubricated separately.
- Pulsating Flow: Delivers gas in discrete pulses rather than a smooth flow, requiring dampeners in some applications.
- Noisy & Less Efficient: The sudden compression/discharge and meshing create significant noise. The lack of internal compression also makes them inherently less efficient than compressors that compress internally (like screw compressors) at higher pressures.
- Large Capacity: Excellent for moving very large volumes of gas at low pressure differentials.
Common Applications of roots blower:
-
- Internal Combustion Engines: As superchargers (“Roots-type superchargers”) to force more air into the engine, significantly increasing power.
- Industrial Pneumatic Conveying: Moving bulk materials like powders, grains, chips.
- Wastewater Treatment: Aeration in activated sludge basinsand backwash in the filter .
- Chemical & Process Industries: Moving gases like chlorine, hydrogen, natural gas, biogas, exhaust gases.
- Vacuum Pumps: Often used in multi-stage systems to achieve rough vacuum levels.
- Reclamation Systems: Extracting fumes or vapors.
- Cement & Foundries: Handling abrasive dusts (special designs required).
